Stories About Collecting Vinyl

Get inside the heads of two vinyl enthusiasts and their collections. With very little exception, all the vinyl featured here is part of our personal collection.  We will attempt to avoid posting about a piece of music if we do not own it or have not actually seen it/heard it/held it.

About

Andrew Schubert

Vinyl to me is a lot of things.  Sometimes it’s not even about the music.  The better the packaging (or the longer it takes me to take the goddamn lp out of the sleeve) the more I want the record.  The more limited the quantity, the more I want the record.  The more radical color of the vinyl, the more I want the record.  Original pressing?  Want it.  Reissue on heavier weight and bonus tracks?  Want it.  Scratched up and looks loved?  Want it.  I am NEVER not on the hunt to find the next record to fall in love with.  The only thing I don’t love about vinyl is moving my collection from apartment to apartment, shit is so heavy!

Vinyl to me is more a experience of discovery. Whether you find it online or in a records store, bringing back home and discovering the artwork, liner notes and sometimes a gorgeous bright red vinyl is always a treat for me. Most of all it’s holding the physical media in my hand. This piece of art that involved so many people who are passionate for music. It’s all the stuff you don’t get with a digital copy like the warm tones with the occasional crackling gives it character and history for some. My collection is small to some but growing weekly with every visit to websites and local record stores.
